Future did it again. Releasing three albums since the beginning of the year which all debuted as #1 albums on Billboard. XXL shares that he is the first rapper to drop three #1 albums within a six-month period.
To add more spice, he is the only solo artist to ever accomplish such a feat. The albums mentioned were We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You produced by Metro Booming, which both took the number one spots along with Southside being the executive producer on the newest album, Mixtape Pluto.
Now that we’ve gotten some facts out of the way, let's dive deeper into the review of Mixtape Pluto.
Teflon Don is the song Future started his album on. To me, this sounds like a classic future beat and the song didn’t really stand out to me. Along with Teflon Don, there were many others that did not make my list of favs, such as Lil Demon and more we will get into.
Plutoski is another song I didn’t particularly like due to the “moaning” effect he is using for the chorus. I like the beat a lot, but the choice of lyrics used wasn’t his strongest. I personally think the “moaning” effects he does in the chorus really affect the overall song, and some students around campus agreed with that opinion. Southside definitely did his thing with the beat, but I do not think Future performed well on the lyric aspect of the song.
Too Fast is another song I liked. This song shows us how he is only human and makes mistakes. Fans love to see this from artists. This song humanizes him from his glorious life as a celebrity to an average human who is moving too fast and going through everyday problems.
Fans want to relate to their idol and see how they are only as human as the rest of us. No superpowers. Just a plain human with a major talent in music. I like that aspect of when celebrities do that because I feel some people get caught up and think celebrities are super-humans.
I like Lost My Dog because he is rapping about a subject that has deeply affected me in my life and people all around the world going through it. He speaks about losing his friend to fentanyl, which is an epidemic around the world that takes so many innocent lives.
Fentanyl is a silent killer with most OD being from people not knowing their drug of choice is laced with it. It’s sad because the people who die are not aware that their drug is laced which makes it so hard for families of victims to know their loved one was unaware and poisoned.
Ocean is another favorite for me due to its similar traits to his other song Deeper than the Ocean in his mixtape Future Astronaut Status released in 2012. This song exhibits some of the same feelings as Deeper than the Ocean when Future says the line:
“I got enough tears to fill the ocean for all these losses took in this sh**”
This shows how much pain he’s been through in his life. Future is an artist who always shows his vulnerability to his fans, which I feel makes any music artist relatable to their fans.
Future over and over again has proved he is a charting billboard artist with plenty of relatable pains and struggles coming from the streets.
Now the best for last. These are my favorites from Mixtape Pluto:
Ski, Ready to Cook Up, Ocean, MJ, South of France, Aye Say Gang, Too Fast, and South of France are my top picks. Go check him out as well as his three albums from this year!!!
