Just steps away from the LIU Brooklyn Campus, the bustling and diverse DeKalb Market Hall stands offering a variety of shopping and food vendors galore.
In particular, a descent down the escalator of 445 Albee Square West will bring you straight into the heart of the market. With a choice of more than 40 incredible vendors that have food selections of everything from gourmet pickles to decadent crepes, sushi rolls, and ice cream, there’s something for everyone.
Of the many vendors, when speaking to the proprietors of Eight Turn Crepe, one is met by friendly faces and the delicious aroma of both sweet and savory crepes. Eight Turn Crepe has on average 200 customers a week, with the delicious strawberry-Nutella crepe being their most sought after menu item. The crepes offered are rolled into a cone-like shape, inspired by the Japanese style crepe-making. They’ll leave you wanting more every time! This establishment is one of a kind and makes for just one of many tasty options.
A Taste of Katz’s is the highly recognizable spinoff of the popular NYC eatery, Katz’s Deli. The original deli was established in 1888 and has grown to be one of the staple restaurants in Manhattan fueling many to make trips there to sample their savory collection.
A Taste of Katz’s offers some of the most popular selections from its Manhattan location, located at 205 East Houston Street. A seat at its sleek yet comfortable walk up counter will have you just minutes from a delicious meal and will undoubtedly leave you satisfied. This establishment boasts on average an astounding 1,000 customers a week with many selecting the savory pastrami on rye or knish for an amazing mid-day treat. They’re easily one of the most popular options available and often attracts many with its signature comfort food.
If you’re craving ice cream, the food hall houses one of the many locations for Ample Hills Creamery, the sensational ice cream vendor. Although they were originally founded in Brooklyn, the business has grown into a nationwide phenomenon with many locations in New York, Los Angeles, and even Disney World!
Ample Hills offers a wide variety of unique flavors that will satisfy every pallet and their unique recipes are what make them such a sensation. Flavors such as Fluffernutter Fudge, Summer of Love, Lemon Poppyseed, and PB Wins the Cup offer a one of a kind, flavorful experience that will leave you wanting more. Employees of the DeKalb location say that they serve between 2,000 and 2,500 a week. Vegan options with a delightful selection of sweet sorbets are also available. The most popular menu item, however, is the scrumptious Ooey Gooey Butter Cake ice cream.
For those interested in a club vibe, The Understudy Bar is also an option which works in partnership with many of the market hall’s vendors. Its ambiance is exquisite and draws all in to dance under its fluorescent, colored lights. Happy hour is offered daily from 3pm-7pm and also hosts a variety of themed nights that are extremely popular for its growing crowds. In particular, it offers Ladies Night every Tuesday from 7pm-9pm and Bachata music every Thursday at 8pm.
