On Nov. 5, Donald Trump won the 2024 Presidential election in a sweep of Kamala Harris, 312 to 226. This was a very emotional day for many Americans. While Trump supporters felt relieved about the future of the economy, border security, and international relations, many democratic voters were left feeling unsettled with fear for their constitutional rights and what this Trump victory means for future generations.

Milwaukee Republican voter Ben Vollmer stated via Reuters, “I think people are really looking for a change and I think that was a big advantage that Trump was offering…at the end of the day, I just look at track record and I felt that, you know, the country was better off and more well managed under Trump.”

One Republican in Michigan stated in a BBC News street interview, “Oh, thank God. That’s what I have to say.” Another Michigan red voter stated that she is “very concerned about the economy, where the money is going, the borders…”

In a Channel 4 News street interview, Harris supporters expressed their feelings following the Trump victory. One young woman stated, “...I woke up this morning just knowing that we’re going back to the same old styles of leadership by these older men.”

Another woman stated, “With me, as a black woman, has to do is to keep pushing, to keep kicking in the door even though we’re the most disrespected, highly unfavourable. We have to keep pushing because it’s generations after us that still have to fight for this right. Because there is still going to be a young black girl that’s going to be the president of the United States.”

Many celebrities took to social media as well, some congratulating Trump on his victory, such as Jeff Bezos who wished him “all success in leading and uniting the America we all love”, while others such as Christina Applegate posted, “Why? Give me your reasons why????? My child is sobbing because her rights as a woman may be taken away. Why? And if you disagree, please unfollow me.”

So, what should we expect when Trump takes office in January 2025? On https://www.donaldjtrump.com/ under the Agenda47 tab, there are many videos about Trump’s plans for when he returns to office, such as how he will stop China from owning America and his free speech policy initiative.

The Economy

Trump stated that he would “end the devastating inflation crisis immediately, bring down interest rates, and lower the cost of energy.” Trump asserts that one of the biggest problems is the price of energy and he claims he will bring many states down more than 50%. He also states that he’s going to begin with “drill baby drill”, which he believes will help with interest rates and inflation.

Foreign Policy

In a 2023 CNN Republican Town Hall moderated by Kaitlan Collins, Trump addressed the Russia-Ukraine war, stating, “If I’m president, I will have that war settled in one day, 24 hours.” Upon getting asked who he wanted to win the war, he stated, “I want everybody to stop dying. They’re dying. Russians and Ukranians.” Moreover, upon being asked about Gaza, Trump stated, “What we want is peace, all over we want peace.”

He wants to end the crisis in the Middle East and prevent World War III from happening, which he believes Joe Biden’s administration has driven the country towards. It is unclear, however, how Trump will make this happen.

Abortion

Trump states that he would veto a federal abortion ban if it came across his desk and he believes that abortion must be left up to the states. He has stated that he is pro-life but that he believes in the three exceptions, which are rape, incest, and in the case that a pregnancy could harm the mother’s life.

Immigration

Trump has expressed repeatedly that he will work to seal the southern border and deport millions of undocumented immigrants, claiming that he will carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in the country's history.

He plans to get “the bad ones out first,” meaning the ones coming from prisons, jails, and mental institutions. He says this will be done through local police, who he claims he has 97% support from. Moreover, he wants to up the security at the border by hiring new border agents. He also wants to continue building his wall.

Culture Wars

Trump stated that “the left-wing gender insanity being pushed on our children is an act of child abuse.” He also claimed that he would cut federal funding for any school “pushing critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual or political content onto the shoulders of our children.”

He wants to pass a law in all 50 states prohibiting “child sexual mutilation”, meaning he will prevent minors from getting gender-affirming care.

He wants to pass a bill stating that the U.S. government will only recognize males and females as genders and that they are assigned at birth. He also plans to keep men out of women’s sports. He stated that “no serious country should be telling it’s children that they were born with the wrong gender” and that under his leadership “this madness will end.”
