On Jan. 26, 2024, Megan Thee Stallion released a song called “HISS.” The song quickly garnered attention for dissing people like Drake and Tory Lanez. One line in particular became popular amongst fans:
“These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law.”
Megan’s Law refers to a law that requires sex offenders to register with the state, as well as provide parents with the information when a registered sex offender moves into the community. The law was named after Megan Kanka, a seven-year-old girl that was raped and murdered by a sex offender living across the street from her.
The line didn’t just catch on with fans though. Nicki Minaj seemingly interpreted the line to be about her husband, Kenneth Petty, as he is a registered sex offender himself. She took to Instagram Live shortly after the song’s release, ranting about Megan.
Throughout the livestream, Minaj said she dared Megan to say one more thing about her family and claimed that she lied to her dead mother. Minaj also gave fans a sneak peek of her song “Big Foot,” a diss track that would be released in response to Megan’s song “HISS.”
Minaj also made a series of tweets that called Megan out. Throughout the tweets, Minaj says that she will post “every fkn receipt known to man” if Megan so much as breathes wrong and calls Megan a “pathological and manipulative liar”, as well as a “horrible actor that can't cry on cue.”
The self-proclaimed “Queen of Rap” Nicki Minaj has feuded with people since the start of her career, with such celebrities as Mariah Carey, Cardi B, and Miley Cyrus. However, Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj have had a history of friendship. The two have been friendly on Instagram Live together, where Megan admitted she had been a fan of Minaj since 2008. They have showered each other with compliments in interviews. They even collaborated on the song “Hot Girl Summer” in 2019.
In response to “HISS,” Nicki released a song titled “Big Foot” on Jan. 29, 2024. The song garnered lots of controversy for lyrics like, “The bitch fell off, I said “Get up on your good foot,’” which refers to a shooting that took place where rapper Tory Lanez shot Megan in the foot, and “Swearin’ on your dead mother when you lie,” which pokes fun at Megan’s dead mother.
Though there is a lot of controversy around the feud, it has benefitted both artists’ music sales.
On Feb. 5, 2024, Megan’s song “HISS” debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, while Minaj’s song “Big Foot” debuted at number 23. The two even took up the top two spots on the Apple Music charts at one point.
At this time, Megan has not yet publicly addressed Nicki Minaj, but she has thanked her fans on social media for her song’s success.
It was honestly very distasteful for Nicki to make remarks about her peer in this manner when Megan to my knowledge hasn’t even said a name. Thank you for including more information about Megan’s Law, it was very informative.
