Victims from Border Bridge Crash Identified
On Nov. 24, a terrible crash caused a 2022 Bently to spin out of control in an intersection, hitting a low ramp and causing the car to become airborne, hitting several security booths at Rainbow Bridge and then catching on fire.
Investigators are looking for whether it was a mechanical or medical issue that could have caused the car and the driver to lose control. Luckily, there were no signs of it being a terrorist attack, and it was promptly turned over to the local police for traffic investigation.
The two people in the car were identified as the couple Kurt and Monica Villani. The Villani’s own Gui’s Lumber and several Ace hardware stores throughout Buffalo and the western New York area.
Both the families as well as the lumber company released statements regarding the deaths of the married couple from Apnews.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all that extended prayers, condolences, and well wishes. At this point, we are requesting privacy so we may begin the process of healing.”
Stache Wins 2023 National Dog Show
If you were tuned into the Thanksgiving telecast, then it comes as no surprise that the National Dog Show is a must-watch while you cooking or taking a break from it.
This year’s winner stole the show, beating out 2,000 other dogs from about 199 breeds. Stache is a Sealyham terrier from Cochranville, Pennsylvania. He is the second-ranked Terrier in the country and the twelfth-ranked in the All-breed Dog Show.
This marks Stache’s 49th Best in Show at the National Dog Show. Stache’s handler, Margery Good of Goodspice Kennels stated to CBS how he gave an outstanding performance.
Good also posted their win on Facebook, the post reading:
“Thank you to all of Stache's fans, we and Stache very much appreciate your support on this ride. Good Boy Stache!!”
Israel and Hamas Reach for Humanitarian Pause
On Wednesday, Nov. 22, Israel was able to reach an agreement with Hamas after intensive negotiations between them along with the United States and Qatar. The paused fighting will last for four days and includes the release of 50 women and children from Hamas and the release of 150 Palestinian women and children released from Israeli imprisonment.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in the statement that this was the first stage of accomplishing their goal of retrieving all the hostages. He also noted that for every additional ten hostages released, the pause will continue.
However, Netanyahu also noted that they will “continue the war in order to return home all of the hostages, complete the elimination of Hamas and ensure that there will be no new threat to the State of Israel from Gaza,” as in the UsNews article.
Terry Taylor Dies at Age 71
The first woman to become Sports editor of the Associated Press, Terry Taylor, unfortunately, died at 71 years old on Nov. 14. Her husband, Tony Rentschler said that the cause was breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with back in 2013.
She became the Sports editor back in 1992 and completely elevated the kind of stories that were both on and off the field when it came to sports. She covered the Olympics, and World Cup, as well as leagues and teams worldwide.
Her journalistic style has brought many changes to commentary, investigative stories, and features we see written now, and her impact will surely not fade away or be forgotten for years to come.
Melissa Barrera Was fired After speaking out About Israel and Hamas
Melissa Barrera was supposed to be in the Scream franchise movie, “Scream VII”. However, that will not be the case after the studio found her posts about the Israeli and Hamas war, which the studio deemed antisemitic.
A spokesperson from Spyglass made a statement to CNN about her departure from the film, stating that “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
Barrera also spoke out in response to this, stating that silence is not an option for her and that she will continue to speak out until there is no more violence.
“First and foremost I condemn antisemitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hate and prejudice of any kind against any group of people,” she expressed. “As a Latina, a proud Mexicana, I feel the responsibility of having a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and therefore I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need.”
