Sen. Dianne Feinstein Dies at 90
Elected back in 1992, Dianna Feinstein became one of the longest-serving women and a trailblazer in U.S. politics. She was an adamant advocate for gun control and planned on retiring from her term in 2024, due to concerns regarding her health.
Her death was confirmed on Friday, Sept. 29. President Joe Biden made a few remarks about the accomplishments Feinstein did while she was in office. The flags were lowered in her honor.
“Dianne made her mark on everything from national security to the environment to protecting civil liberties. She’s made history in so many ways, and our country will benefit from her legacy for generations.” Biden said in a statement from nbcnews.com.
None of the candidates for the 2024 election will be chosen to take her place temporarily to avoid upsetting the balance. As we wait for a new democratic representative to take her seat, you can read more about her work here at nbcnews.com.
Mexico’s “Queen of Tequila” Proves Naysayers Wrong in a Male-Dominated Industry
Melly Barajas, the creator of Leyenda de Mexico, comments on how she was able to make a name for herself with her business in such a male-prominent industry. However, the difference between her distilleries and others is that hers is the only one solely run by women.
Originally wanting to be a fashion designer, Barajas swiftly changed her goals when one day her dad asked for tequila. Being so young, a lot of people questioned if Barajas would be able to survive.
When she started gathering more people for her business, she realized that all of them were women, single mothers, or girls who wanted to get out of their town and do something different with their lives.
“They are my motivation. It motivates me to see what they do to get ahead, to survive,” Barajas told ABC News.
Tri-State Flooding, State of Emergency Declared
New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut were all placed under flood watch as a massive rainstorm approached the area Friday. New York had garnered about 5 inches of rain since Friday morning.
Since then, Amtrak and many other public transportations have been delayed, while schools still continued for the day.
Others are trapped in their car due to the amount of water on the streets. One person tweeted on X saying:
“The Bronx River Parkway is flooded and people are stuck in their cars right now. Where were all the alerts last night about the life-threatening flash floods? Why weren’t schools closed? NYC must improve its climate-crisis planning and communications. Our lives are at stake.”
It also makes it the wettest that the JFK airport has ever been, having about 8 inches of rain since 1948.
NFL Sets Its Sight on Brazil and Spain as Popularity Grows Internationally
Football has grown to be a sport loved by people outside of the United States. It was confirmed by the NFL that it would look into cities in Brazil and Spain as future hosts for games.
London will host three games this season, along with two games being played in Frankfurt, Germany. The NFL has been recently making a push to have games become international for the fans in other cities.
They have no set timeline yet as to what cities will be added, but they have looked into stadiums in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and Madrid. “We’ve seen the impact of bringing a game to a new market like last year in Germany, and the impact locally, the response from fans,” Peter O’Reilly, the executive vice president of club business, and international and league events.
He has expressed interest in also wanting to establish a relationship with France and Australia as well.
