President Biden met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this past Wednesday amid a war between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel. Biden showed his support for Israel and urged a return to stability while acknowledging Gaza’s growing humanitarian crisis.

An additional summit with King Abdullah of Jordan, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, and President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine was called off following a hospital explosion in Gaza.

Following President Biden’s visit, he addressed Congress and the American people on Friday, asking Congress to back his “urgent budget request” to support Israel, Ukraine, and other national security interests.

Jim Jordan Fails to Take the House

The United States Congress remains without a speaker as Rep. Jim Jordan is cut out of the race for Speaker of the House of Representatives. Following the ousting of former speaker Kevin McCarthy on Oct. 3, a series of new votes were conducted for a new speaker. Jordan failed in three separate ballots before he was put on the sidelines in a secret ballot by House Republicans.

The nine contenders for the position now include Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota, GOP Conference Vice Chair Mike Johnson of Louisiana, Jack Bergman of Michigan, Byron Donalds of Florida, Kevin Hern of Oklahoma, Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania, Gary Palmer of Alabama, Austin Scott of Georgia, and Pete Sessions of Texas. However, the lack of a GOP majority for any of these candidates at present leaves the House in disarray and unable to operate.

Protestors took to Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge yesterday to voice their support for Palestine, calling for peace and ceasefire in the war-stricken land. The protest started off mostly peaceful before descending into chaos by sundown. A protestor was caught on video apparently being punched by an NYPD cop. The NYPD claims “eggs, fireworks, and bottles” were thrown at them. 19 people were detained, and 16 people were cited for disorderly conduct amid hostilities with the NYPD, according to ABC7 New York.

The Rolling Stones released a new album last Friday; their first album complete with new songs in nearly two decades. This is also the first album to be released after their drummer, Charlie Watts, died in 2021, in which he has recorded a couple of songs. Additionally, the album features several guest collaborations, including from Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Lady Gaga.

The New York Post’s Chuck Arnold describes the album as, “a solid, satisfying victory lap” in the band’s over six-decade-long history.

The album is available to stream on platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music.

The New York Giants held on to a win against the Washington Commanders with a score of 14-7 today, keeping the Giants from playoff contention. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor filled in for Daniel Jones, who was out with a neck injury.

Tight end Darren Waller and running back Saquon Barkley each made touchdowns in the second quarter to bring the Giants into a commanding 14-0 lead. Despite a less-than-stellar offense during the second half with a Commanders touchdown, the Giants were able to hang on to their lead, bringing an end to their four-game losing streak.
