The Texas Rangers went and took it.

On Wednesday, the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 to win the 2023 World Series. The Rangers captured the Commissioner’s Trophy for the first time in their 63-year franchise history.

With the scorching hot bat of Adolis Garcia sidelined, Corey Seager led the way for the Rangers. In the series, he mashed three home runs and drove in six with a 1.137 OPS, taking home his second-career World Series MVP Award.

"It truly is incredible," said Seager, who signed a 10-year, $325 million deal with Texas ahead of the 2022 season. "But it's not just me, man. What this team did and how we competed and all the guys in there rallying, we don't really have one leader. That whole clubhouse is the leadership."

The NBA’s newest big three just took center stage in Hollywood.

On Monday night, the Los Angeles Clippers acquired James Harden in a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. The 10-time All-Star joins forces with fellow stars Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.

Harden requested a trade in June after a highly publicized falling-out with 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey. Having grown up in Southern California, the 34-year-old gets his wish of returning home to play for the Clippers.

Heading to Los Angeles with Harden is long-time teammate PJ Tucker and Filip Petrusev in exchange for Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, Nic Batum, KJ Martin, and draft picks.

NBA In-Season Tournament Tips Off on Questionable New Courts

Someone’s getting fired.

The NBA In-Season Tournament officially tipped off on Friday night. For the first time, all 30 teams will compete in a tournament during the regular season that does not effect regular season standings.

To indicate which games are which, teams received specialized courts for tournament play. These new courts, drenched in bright colors and absent of woodgrain, have received intense backlash from NBA fans.

“Sure, the NBA In-Season Tournament seemed like an absolutely dumb idea at the start and seemed to not make any sense,” noted one user on X, “but at least they made up for it by having it be played on courts so nauseating that you can’t see the ball and even if you did wanna watch, you’d get a headache.”

Fans can rejoice knowing that the “ocular nightmare” will end with the tournament’s conclusion on December 9.

UFC Sao Paulo: Almeida vs. Lewis

Lewis doesn’t like five-round fights and they sure don’t like him, either.

On Saturday, Jailton Almeida dominated fan-favorite Derrick Lewis to secure a unanimous decision victory in the heavyweight main event of UFC Sao Paulo. A thirty-pound weight disparity didn’t stop Almeida from manhandling Lewis for five straight rounds.

Almeida accumulated 21 minutes and 10 seconds of control time, setting a UFC heavyweight record. Additionally, it was the most control time in a UFC fight in 16 years.

Almeida has won 15 straight fights, including his first six since entering the UFC. In his post-fight interview, the surging star called out former UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane.

One pass later, the Sharks were back in it.

On Saturday, the LIU Sharks defeated the St. Francis Red Flash 29-28 in Loretto, Pennsylvania. Trailing with 93 seconds left, quarterback Chris Howell launched a 72-yard pass to Aviyon Smith-Mack that set Owen Glascoe up for an easy one-yard touchdown rush to take the lead.

With time winding down, LIU withstood the final drive from St. Francis, forcing an incomplete pass from the Red Flash on 4th-and-7.

The Sharks, now riding a two-game win streak, improve to 3-2 in the NEC. LIU returns home next Saturday to host Wagner at noon.
