MLB Announces MVP Winners
On November 21, Los Angeles Dodgers’ two way star Shohei Ohtani and New York Yankees’ outfielder Aaron Judge were awarded the MVP awards for their respective leagues, each receiving unanimous votes from all 30 ballots. This remarkable achievement marked Ohtani’s third MVP – and his first in the National League – while Judge secured his second.
Ohtani led the National League in home runs (54), RBI’s (130) and batting percentage (.310). His regular season also marked history and he became the first player in MLB history to notch at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season. Ohtani overachieved, finishing the season with the aforementioned 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases. Ohtani’s 2024 accomplishment-filled season solidified his status as a dual-threat superstar, despite not pitching the entire season while recovering from Tommy John surgery the offseason prior.
Judge, who previously won the award back in 2022, led the majors in home runs (58), RBI’s (144) and OPS (1.159). Both players also led their teams to the first seed in their respective leagues.
Both players' achievements this season not only highlight their individual talents but also underscore their significant impact on their respective teams. Their unanimous selections as MVPs further cements their legacies in baseball history, showcasing two of the sport's brightest stars at the peak of their careers.
